Vertigo & Balance Disorders

Vertigo is a spinning sensation due to inner ear problems. The main balance organ in our body is located in the inner ear. Any disease affecting the balance organ (vestibule) can cause a sensation of spinning or dizziness known as vertigo. Vertigo can occur due to a number of diseases affecting the inner ear.

Common causes of vertigo :

  • BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo)
  • Vestibular neuritis, labyrinthitis
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Age related balance loss

Treatment Offered:

  1. Clinical evaluation and positional tests – These are bedside tests to diagnose type of vertigo
  2. Canal repositioning maneuvers for BPPV
  3. Vestibular rehabilitation
  4. Medical management for chronic vertigoMost types of vertigo can be diagnosed with bedside evaluation tests and treated with appropriate repositioning or Vestibular rehabilitation
