Nasal Allergies and Sinus treatment

If you are suffering from frequent cold, facial pain, headache, nasal blockage, or post-nasal drip, you may be experiencing sinusitis. At Sahawas ENT Clinic we diagnose and treat acute and chronic sinus problems.

We offer both medical and surgical management, including Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) for patients who do not respond to medicines.

What is Sinusitis?

Sinusitis is inflammation or infection of the sinuses (air-filled spaces around the nose). It may be:

  • Acute Sinusitis (short duration)
  • Chronic Sinusitis (lasting more than 12 weeks)
  • Recurrent Sinusitis
  • Sinusitis with Nasal Polyps

Symptoms of Sinus Problems
Chronic sinusitis is a common condition seen due to pollution, dust exposure, and allergies.
Common symptoms include

  • persistent nasal blockage
  • facial pain or pressure and recurrent headaches,
  • thick nasal discharge and post nasal drip
  • reduced sense of smell

Early diagnosis helps prevent complications and long-term discomfort. Detailed examination followed by nasal endoscopy and imaging like CT scans aids in timely diagnosis

Sinus Treatment includes

Medical Management :

Most sinus infections can be treated with:

Antibiotics (if bacterial)

Anti-allergic medication

Nasal sprays

Saline nasal irrigation

Many patients improve without surgery when treated appropriately.

Surgical Management – Sinus surgery

Surgical treatment of Sinusitis or polyps is by Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

If symptoms persist despite medical treatment, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) may be recommended.

This is a minimally invasive procedure performed using a nasal endoscope. There are no external cuts, and recovery is faster compared to traditional surgery.

Benefits of FESS:

Improved breathing after removal of nasal obstruction, reduced sinus infections, relief from facial pain, short hospital stay and faster recovery

Dr. Sanket Dani has extensive experience in performing endoscopic sinus procedures with precision and patient safety.

Frequently asked questions

Is sinus surgery painful?

No. It is performed under general anesthesia and is generally well tolerated.

How long is recovery after sinus surgery?

Most patients resume routine activities within a few days.

Can sinusitis come back after surgery?

Proper follow-up and allergy management reduce recurrence significantly.

Do I always need surgery for sinusitis?

No. Surgery is recommended only if medical treatment fails.

Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy

Allergies affecting the nose (allergic rhinitis) are a common cause of sneezing, nasal blockage, and recurrent sinus issues. Identifying the exact trigger is key to effective, long-term treatment.

Allergy Testing – Skin Prick Test

The skin prick test is a simple, safe, and reliable method to identify substances causing allergic reactions.

We offer allergy testing at Sahawas ENT clinic for our allergy patients.

How the Test is Performed

  • Small amounts of common allergens (dust, pollen, food, etc.) are placed on the skin
  • The skin is gently pricked with a fine needle
  • Reactions are observed within 15–20 minutes

What Does It Detect?

  • Dust mite allergy
  • Pollen allergy
  • Mold and environmental allergens
  • Animal dander
  • Certain food allergies

Benefits of Skin Prick Testing

  • Quick and minimally uncomfortable
  • Immediate results
  • Helps identify specific triggers
  • Guides targeted treatment

Allergy Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots / Sublingual Therapy)

Immunotherapy is a specialized treatment that reduces sensitivity to allergens over time, offering long-term relief rather than temporary symptom control.

How Immunotherapy Works

  • Small, controlled doses of allergens are introduced into the body
  • Gradually builds tolerance to allergens
  • Reduces severity of allergic reactions

Types of Immunotherapy

1. Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT)

  • Allergy injections given at regular intervals

2. Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

  • Allergen drops or tablets taken under the tongue

Benefits of Immunotherapy

  • Long-term relief from allergies
  • Reduces need for medications
  • Improves quality of life
  • May prevent progression to asthma

Who Should Consider Immunotherapy?

  • Persistent allergic rhinitis not controlled with medications
  • Identified allergens on testing
  • Patients seeking long-term solution

At Sahawas ENT clinic we offer accurate allergy diagnosis using skin prick testing, followed by personalized immunotherapy plans to provide long-lasting relief and improved nasal health.
