Deviated Nasal Septum and Septum Surgery

What is Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS)?

The nasal septum is the wall that divides the nose into two passages. When this septum is displaced or crooked, it is called a deviated septum (DNS).

A deviated septum can cause:

  • Persistent nasal blockage (often on one side)
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Headache
  • Snoring
  • Frequent nosebleeds

Many patients suffer from nasal obstruction due to septal deviation without realizing it.

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum. It improves airflow through the nose and reduces recurrent sinus infections. In most cases this procedure is combined with a turbinate reduction or coblation procedure which improves nasal airway and gives significant relief.

Benefits of Septoplasty:

  • Improved nasal breathing
  • Reduction in sinus infections
  • Better sleep quality
  • Reduced snoring
  • Relief from nasal obstruction

The procedure is performed under anesthesia without any visible external cuts. Most patients recover quickly and return to routine activities within a few days.

At Sahwas ENT clinic we have extensive experience performing Septoplasties with great results.

What is a Nasal Bone Fracture?
A nasal bone fracture is a break in one or both nasal bones, usually caused by sports
injuries, falls, road traffic accidents, or facial trauma.

Symptoms of fracture nasal bone

  • Pain and swelling of the nose
  • Nosebleeds
  • Crooked or deviated appearance of the nose
  • Difficulty breathing through the noseBruising around the eyes

Treatment

  • Observation for minor fractures
  • Closed reduction under anaesthesia for displaced fractures

Ideally, all suspected nasal fractures should be assessed within 7–10 days of injury.
